About The Foundation

Rakshak Foundation is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) implementing partner of Rakshak Subidha (P) Ltd. based in Kolkata, West Bengal. This organization is headed by Social Entrepreneur Ms. Chaitali Das and funded by the Rakshak Group. The Foundation has been working for the past 25 years but made itself official in 2014.

Rakshak Foundation is registered under the Section 80G and 12A of Income Tax An exemption, Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME), NITI Aayog and NGO Darpan. It has obtained its Import Export Code, CRISIL gradation while its FCRA registration is underway. It is empaneled with the National Jute Board (NJB), Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India and works in association with the Directorate of Correctional Services, Govt of West Bengal. It is a member of Jute Product Development and Export Promotion Council (JPDEPC) and Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH).

Rakshak Foundation is working in the area of Skill Development (Jeevika Rakshak), Women Empowerment (Shakti Rakshak), Environment Conservation (Vatavaran Rakshak), Art & Creativity (Srishti Rakshak) and Health Welfare (Swasth Rakshak).

Poverty alleviation through skill development, with a special focus on Women Empowerment while conserving the environment and promoting inclusivity.

A world where no child goes to bed hungry, no mother without a penny or a father without a job.

To work with the Global and the local community across borders, learning each other’s best practices and sharing our mutual challenges to work collectively and effectively to create a better world for us and our future generations.

Key Highlights of Our Achievements

  1. Successfully running 2 Naba Disha centres with Kolkata Police at Tollygunge and Ekbalpur catering to 150 children from under-privileged homes. We have equipped these 2 centres with modern educational facilities.

  2. Successful running New Horizon Literacy Centre for Slum Children in Alipore, with 30 students.

  3. Successfully completed a batch of 15 students in the New Horizon Computer Learning Centre.

  4. Set up Jute and Leather manufacturing units in Dumdum Central Correctional Home & Alipore Correctional Home and engaging 50 inmates in these two ventures.

  5. Branding of Jute products made by jail inmates, showcasing as well selling the items at fairs in India and abroad like Sharad Mela 2017, Annual Art Fair and Festivals of Arts Acre,“SAARC Investment Forum” 2017 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, BIMSTEC Expo, Kolkata, 2017, IITF, Pragiti Maidan, 2017.

  6. Selling our jute products at various renowned stores of Kolkata like Toile, Good Companion, Oxford Bookstore, and Floating Market at Patuli.

  7. Getting nominated by H.E. Ma Zhanwu, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata, to go to China as state guests.

  8. Orchestrating a Fashion Show under ‘Jute Story Beyond Bars’ to showcase the Jute Apparel and Lifestyle products made by the inmates of Correctional Homes to promote ‘Jute as a Fashion Statement’ at the ICC Textile & Apparel Event on 12th July 2019 at ITC Sonar.

  9. Getting nominated by H.E. Zha Liyou, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata, to lead a Women Changemakers delegation to Kunming, China from 20th – 27th July 2019.

Key Events

  1. Hosting an India-China Cultural Exchange Programme in collaboration with the Chinese Consulate in Kolkata.

  2. Hosting World Peace Conference 2016 organized in Kolkata. It was presided over by Keshari Nath Tripathi, Governor of West Bengal, Consul Generals from various countries, Rotarians, members of Rakshak Foundation and Media representatives.

  3. Participating in various Fashion Shows like Allure Fashion Tour, Angavastra at Ordnance Club, Lake Club to showcase Jute as a fashion statement.

  4. Holding an exclusive Painting Exhibition ‘Aitijhya- Our Heritage’ to showcase paintings on canvases painted by artists in confinement to celebrate World Heritage Week 2018.

  5. ‘Global Mentoring Walk’ hosted by Rakshak Foundation in association with Vital Voices on 9th March 2019 to commemorate International Women’s Day witnessing a participation of over 200 students, guests and dignitaries.

  6. Rakshak Foundation in association with the Green Team of the S. Consulate General in Kolkata observed the “Earth Day” on 22nd April 2019 at Allen Park, Kolkata.
